In addition to our normal terms and conditions, these ones also apply to the restoration aspect.
Once you are happy to go ahead with the restoration, we will take half the total amount up front and then on completion we can send images, or you are free to pop in and see it in person. We will then collect the remainder of the balance before the mantel leaves the building.
Stone Mantels
Stone is a natural porous material. Over the years there is a chance that the stone may have absorbed certain minerals and dirt so that when it goes through the wet polishing process the staining may appear on the surface.
We will try our best to remove any current staining using poultices and polishing but we cannot guarantee total removal.
You will have two options of finishes for marble -- honed (matt/satin) or fully polished. Slate can only be brought up to a honed (matt/satin) finish.
If there are any bits missing or damaged, we may be able to replace that section with a piece of stone from our stock. It may not be a 100% match though as each cut of marble is slightly different.
Any small chips or cracks will be colour matched the best we can and filled unless you specify that you would rather not have them filled.
Removal and installation is not the responsibility of Holyrood. We can recommend a company to do this for you or you can get that part done yourself by searching for a “grate builder”. If it is off the wall already then we can organise collection and possibly delivery back to you at an additional cost.
Cast iron Inserts, combinations and mantels.
If your insert has a crack in it then we can weld it again but can not guarantee it will not crack in the same place again. This is down to cast iron not technically being able to weld like mild steel can. We use Nickel arc rods which “stitch” the metal back together. By experience, its only really something to worry about if it is in the burning area.
We can polish the decorative parts of the insert, but this is very time demanding so additional charges may apply.
If your insert does not have its original bars or ashpan cover, we can supply these.
You have 2 choices of finishes for inserts. Matt black and Graphite which is a bit shinier.
Please bear in mind that there may be a difference between your expectations and reality. We will do the very best we can and give you back your fireplace in a condition that we would be proud to sell in our showroom but at the end of the day, it is still an antique item that will retain this charm and differentiate it from a brand new, CNC machined reproduction mantel.
