Georgian wooden painted mantel, Sienna slips and hobgrate 0008

£11,995.00

This mantel was removed from the French institute on Randolph crecent in Edinburgh. A building designed by the great Scottish architect James Gillespie Graham in 1822.

The central breast plate of the mantel is adorned with an urn and arabesque floral scrolls, flanked on the endblocks with bold carved urns which sit above the beautifully carved scrolled jambs.

The slips are made from Statuary marble with a bull nose and sienna marble fronts.

The large register plate is very much of its time with Neoclassical features such as etched bellflower swags, decorated boss’s and urns. The 4 bar grate is topped with finials and has a good sized burning area.

It has all been sympathetically restored to retain its charm but the register plate has had a new firebrick installed and grate repaired to ensure its continued use for real fires.
